Natural Disturbance effects on forest carbon dynamics, and the role of forest management in the process

Natural disturbance processes are affected by both forest management and climate change. The resulting shifts in natural disturbance processes can have profound impact on the secondary successional pathways of British Columbia forest types (Ran & Swift 2013). Building an understanding of how these systems work and their potential changes over time and space is important since many forest managers will be faced with finding ways for these changing forests to meet energy, economic development and environmental quality demands. One of the ecosystem service demands that is now in the forefront of climate change mitigation discussions and directly linked to forests and forest management activities is the management of forest carbon.
